Dearest friends and members of the CMAA Oregon Chapter,
As spring finally arrives, I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on recent events and share a number of upcoming opportunities to participate in our CMAA chapter here in Oregon and SW Washington for the second half of the year.
In the upcoming months we have a number of great events planned and we have teamed up with other professional organizations to support their events to provide additional learning and business development opportunities from others in the construction industry.
Join us for the Annual CMAA Oregon Owners’ Project Spotlight Event. This is an educational and networking event aimed at celebrating unique and highly successful construction projects. Dan Jung, Senior Director of the Office of School Modernization at Portland Public School and Darren Lee, Construction Manager will talk about the new Faubion K-8 school. Jon Henrickson, Multnomah County will discuss the newly completed Sellwood Bridge. During the event CMAA Oregon Chapter Officers for the coming year will also be announced. In February, Casey Nokes with Cable Huston, LLP discussed construction law. The discussion explored cumulative impact claims. Mr. Nokes provided an overview of various case studies from both the Owner’s and Contractor’s perspectives.
In March, CMAA hosted a Quality in Construction event. This panel discussion focused on techniques to track quality during fast paced construction. Ed Trotter from OHSU moderated the discussion and presenters from Mortenson, Trimet, and Turner provided overviews of their robust quality programs.
CMAA hosted a student tour of the new Faubion K-8 School, this student only tour was an opportunity for students and young professionals to visit an active construction site.
In April, CMAA hosted a tour of the OHSU Knight Cancer Research Facility currently under construction. The facility will be a seven-floor, 320,000 sf building.
We thank our event hosts and presenters, who without, the Chapter would not be able to provide these quality educational events.
